When school and community groups work together the outcomes can be significant. One such example came to fruition this afternoon as three members of the Moyne Shire Youth Council, in conjunction with Hawkesdale P12 College staff and students and the Moyne Shire Youth Councillor unveiled their project – a tiled mural depicting our local farming region. This was three years in the making.
Students wanted to do something to beautify the southern facing wall of the Hawkesdale Memorial Hall. Once the initial ideas were consolidated, a competition was organised seeking designs for the mural. From more than 100 entries, three were chosen and ideas taken from each to complete the final design. Four boards proudly display the tiled mural with the Moyne River linking each mural together.
An artist in residence was employed to help students add tiles to build the pictures. The result is stunning. Congratulations to all involved.
Have you been involved in school community partnerships? What was the outcome? What are the benefits to both students and community?
