Having just had a wonderful two weeks in Sth Africa and neighbouring countries, I was visually and physically reminded of the global divide, the digital divide, the cultural divide but also the features of a wonderful rainbow nation. Today is Mandela day in Sth Africa – a wonderful initiative

that  inspires individuals to take action to help change the world for the better, and in doing so build a global movement for good.

Many groups and work places will volunteer 67 mins or more to help needy causes  and charity in their local area. This represents the 67 years of public service by Mandela to his country.

My son’s relations will spend 67 mins in a home for  intellectually disabled persons – repairing and sanding down outdoor furniture and donating seeds for their vegetable garden.

What a great idea in honour of a great man! Are you part of MandelaDay? How can we encourage such noble aspirations in our classrooms?

Here are some famous quotes from Nelson Mandela

Happy birthday, Madiba!
