When: Wednesday, August 8th, 8-9pm, Melbourne Australia time (gmt+10), or Thursday UTC 6-7am
About this session: August is Connected Educators Month, a USA initiative. The conversations on connectivity continue with Anne De
Manser, a teacher and school administrator at Mortlake P12 College. Anne will be guest presenter for this session talk about her background interest in social media in schools and how the results of her master’s research has highlighted the need to have informed parents and teachers participating in our kid’s online world.
From that interest and goal, several social media strategies (particularly with Facebook) have been developed to use at school & a “Get Connected class for parents” has been conducted. Anne will outline the sorts of topics they talk about at our class and the concerns parents have with social media. The over riding message of everything they are doing at their school is that they need to continue to look for positive ways to engage their school community through social media.
Anne’s work with the community was featured in a full page report in the Herald Sun, a Melbourne daily newspaper, recently. As Anne says:-
Our ‘Get Connected’ class is lots of fun & we learn a lot from each other.
